The Project

The PHEMS (short for “Pediatric Hospitals as European drivers for multi-party computation and synthetic data generation capabilities across clinical specialities and data types”) project, a groundbreaking initiative in the European healthcare sector, aims to revolutionize the way health data is managed and utilized across Europe. This project is particularly focused on addressing the challenges posed by privacy concerns and the complexity of data sharing due to varying interpretations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

To address these barriers, PHEMS is building a Pediatric Health Data Space (PHDS) – a trusted, privacy-preserving ecosystem for sharing pediatric health data. PHDS builds on the technical infrastructure and governance framework developed in PHEMS to make the secondary use of health data ethical, efficient, and scalable. This helps advance research, benchmarking, and innovation in pediatric care.
