PHEMS presented at Paediatric Innovation Day 2026 in Helsinki

PHEMS was featured at the seventh edition of the Paediatric Innovation Day, held in Helsinki, Finland, bringing together professionals from across the European paediatric and maternal health innovation ecosystem.

The event, organised by i4KIDS together with HUS Helsinki University Hospital and the New Children’s Hospital Foundation, brought together more than 400 registered participants, including healthcare professionals, researchers, hospitals, startups, investors and innovation leaders from across Europe.

This year’s programme focused on three key areas shaping the future of paediatric healthcare: patient-and family-centred care, the role of data and artificial intelligence, and innovative solutions addressing real clinical needs.

PHEMS presents The Paediatric Health Data Space (PHDS)

As part of the ssions dedicated to Data and Artifical Intelligence for the Next Generation of Care, Rubén Díaz, Executive Director of ECHO, officially presented the Paediatric Health Data Space (PHDS).

Developed within the framework of the PHEMS project, PHDS aims to strengthen European collaboration around the secure use of paediatric health data to advance research and drive innovation.

The presentation highlighted the importance of creating collaborative approaches that enable paediatric health data to generate value across institutions while maintaining appropriate levels of privacy, security, and governance.

The launch of PHDS represent an important step in the evolution of the work initiated through PHEMS, bringing together the project’s vision for federated and secure access to paediatric health data with the broader European ambition to support data-driven research and innovation in children’s healthcare.

Connectind Data, AI and clinical innovation

The PHEMS and PHDS presentation formed part of a broader discussion on how data and artificial intelligence can transform paediatric healthcare. Experts from HUS Helsinki University Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), and SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital explored both the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI in paediatrics.

With data, collaboration and innovation at the heart of PHEMS, Paediatric Innovation Day 2026 offered an important platform to share the project’s progress and reinforce connections across the European paediatric health ecosystem.

The Paediatric Innovation Day will return to Barcelona on 18 November 2027.
