PHEMS was featured at HLTH Europe 2026, one of Europe’s leading health innovation events, where Arnau Valls Esteve from Fundació de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu presented the project’s vision for advancing paediatric innovation through the secure use of health data and artificial intelligence.
During his presentation, Arnau highligthed the urgent need to address the innovation gap in paediatric healthcare. Although children represent around a quarter of the global population, paediatric innovation remains significantly underfunded and underserved. The presentation also explored how high-quality paediatric health data can help accelerate research and innovation.
Against this backdrop, Arnau showcased how the PHEMS project is contributing to the development of a federated Paediatric Health Data Space, enabling the secure secondary use of real-world paediatric data while preserving privacy. Aligned with the vison of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), PHEMS leverages federated data infrastructures to facilitate cross-border collaboration and support the development of trustworthy AI solutions for paediatric healthcare.
