Partners
The PHEMS consortium brings together a diverse and expert group of 11 partners from various regions of Europe, encompassing Southern, Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe. This group combines clinical, technological, and organizational expertise and includes 1 large enterprise (LE), 4 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), and 6 hospitals, which are founding members of the European Children’s Hospital Organisation (ECHO), with Hospital Sant Joan De Deu serving as the ECHO coordinator.
This consortium represents a comprehensive and collaborative approach, combining clinical excellence, innovative technology, and strategic management to revolutionize health data management and analysis in Europe.
Key partners and their roles in the PHEMS project are as follows:
Helsinki University Hospital (HUS): Finland’s largest healthcare service provider and a member of ECHO.
HUS is the leader of Work Packages 1, 5, and 7 in the PHEMS project. This leadership role means that they are responsible for the overall coordination and management (WP1), governance and ethical aspects (WP5), and ethics requirements of the project (WP7).
Additionally, HUS participates in all three use cases (UC1, UC2, and UC3) within WP 4. This involvement indicates a significant contribution to the clinical aspects of the project, encompassing various areas like cardiology patient pathway management (UC1), pediatric sepsis prediction (UC2), and hematology patient care (UC3).
Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam (ERASMUS): Erasmus MC is a University Medical Center that combines medical, nursing, and post-graduate schools, biomedical research facilities, a teaching hospital, and a general hospital. Erasmus MC is also part of the European University Hospital Alliance.
ERASMUS is the lead for Work Package 3 (WP3) in the PHEMS project. This role involves managing the development and implementation of various data processing functions. Since WP3 is focused on data processing, ERASMUS’s leadership here implies a significant contribution to the handling, analysis, and validation of data within the project.
ERASMUS also plays an active role in all clinical use cases within Work Package 4 (WP4). Specifically, ERASMUS leads the hematology/hemophilia clinical use case (UC3).
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH): GOSH is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare and hosts the UK’s widest range of specialist health services for children on one site.
GOSH contributes to the development and implementation of the data controller admin tool, governance framework, and playbook.
They lead the first clinical use case (UC1) and support the remaining cases. UC1 focuses on the benchmarking of operations management for cardiology patient pathways in four clinical use case hospitals using OMOP data.
University College London (UCL): University College London (UCL) is represented by Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital (HSJD) and Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation (FSJD):: Hospital Sant Joan de Déu is a pediatric and maternity university reference hospital from Barcelona. It is the largest pediatric hospital in Spain and one of the most important specialised paediatric centres in Europe. Through the Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation, the hospital conducts research to find new and better treatments for paediatric diseases. As a university hospital, it contributes to the training of health professionals, together with the Universitat de Barcelona.
FSJD leads Work Packages 4 (WP4) and 6 (WP6). As the leader of WP4, FSJD is at the helm of clinical use cases and validation. Within WP4 FSJD’s specific responsibility is leading the second use case (UC2) on sepsis in the pediatric intensive care unit and participates in all three use cases (UC1, UC2, and UC3).
As the leader of WP6, FSJD is responsible for the project’s dissemination, exploitation, and communication. This involves not just the sharing of project findings and developments but also ensuring that the project’s results are effectively used and communicated to a wider audience, including the scientific community, industry stakeholders, and policymakers.
Meyer Children’s Hospital IRCCS (MEYER): One of Italy’s top children’s hospitals, MEYER participates in the validation process of the governance framework and playbook and contributes to all clinical use cases.
VEIL.AI (VEIL): A leading company in data pseudonymization and synthetic health data, VEIL implements algorithmic anonymization and synthetization within the PHEMS data controller’s component and provides proof of concept for image data anonymization.
TIETOEVRY FINLAND (TIETOEVRY): delivers market-leading data-driven solutions for health and care. Tietoevry leads Work Package 2 (WP2). This leadership role puts Tietoevry at the forefront of developing the platform architecture and implementation for the project. WP2’s focus is on establishing a federated analytics network among the consortium’s data controllers.
Children’s Clinical University Hospital of Latvia (BKUS): the sole pediatric hospital in the country, plays a crucial role in shaping pediatric healthcare standards in the region.
BKUS participates in the validation of the governance framework, playbook, and clinical use cases.
European Children’s Hospitals Organisation (ECHO): advocates for children’s health and their access to the best quality care through the collaborative work of children’s hospitals.
Leveraging its network, ECHO ensures that the project’s development and validation of synthetic data tools meet the specific needs of pediatric care, thereby broadening the impact and relevance of project outcomes within the pediatric healthcare community.
GENESIS BIOMED (GENESIS): a consultancy firm in the biomedical healthcare sector specializing in providing services to spin-off and start-up companies, entrepreneurs, biotech/pharma and research centers. Founded in May 2017, at the Barcelona Science Park, the leadership team brings more than 20 years of expertise in the healthcare sector, and they now count offices in Madrid and Valencia. Genesis is a proactive project partner. In 2024 they are participating in 6 EU projects together with leading European institutions, the most recently being PHEMS. Within PHEMS, GENESIS is responsible for designing the business model and preparing the exploitation and commercial plan.
Aridhia Informatics Limited (ARIDHIA): Provides a secure digital research environment, implementing the federated analytics network and analytics tools.
